A look at the NHL by-law that just cost Bob Hartley $25,000

When Bob Hartley finally hauls out his chequebook and scribbles down $25,000 (he has 10 days to pay his fine before even more discipline kicks in), it’ll probably sting a little. Even for NHL coaches with handsome salaries, that’s gotta suck.

On the plus side, things could be a lot worse. The NHL by-law pertaining to his activity in that brawl game against the Canucks allows the league to fine teams and their officials up to $1,000,000 for conduct prejudicial to the league. So he’s got that going for him.
