First of all, apologies to those who made SportsDocuments.com a big hit in the first month. The return of the National Hockey League slammed me last week, which meant a little neglect for this bad boy right here.
Anyways, one story you may have caught if you read my work in the Ottawa Citizen is the (pending) name for the city’s CFL franchise.
Don’t let the applicant name fool you. Sometimes companies will use what amounts to a shell corporation to throw journalists off when it comes to trade marks. The owner of the Ottawa CFL team confirmed the night I found this that, yes, it was in the running for the team name. An email a short while later from the Ottawa group’s point man on the naming of the team explaining the context (these are Ottawa’s sporting colours) leads me to believe that this is the front-runner.
Of course, I believe the front-runner before this was Ottawa Rush, which I reported was a contender back in early December. It suddenly fell of the radar, perhaps because of the significant public backlash after my story in the Citizen. Based on Twitter reaction so far, people seem much more open to Red Blacks than Rush, so we’ll see if it withstands the scrutiny.
Also, this appears to be the name for Ottawa’s pending NASL soccer team:

I think Ottawa really needs to get an imagination although it sounds cool in french
I don’t see a name. I see a name and an adjective. It makes no sense what so ever. I have no clue what it means, the closest thing I can come up with is the Crimson Negros… There is no tie to the city other than colours and football colours in Ottawa were predominantly Black on White and White on Black. I can’t believe that after having close to five years to think of a name they came up with something so ridiculous.
Red Raiders (RR) Roughnecks Rowdies are more indicative of Football
