Proposed path to Canadian gold: focus on ‘severely disabled’ athletes

TSN’s Rick Westhead has a report out tonight about some Own the Podium documents obtained under the Access to Information Act. In those documents, officials discuss ways Canada could pump up its medal count at the Olympics and Paralympics. A proposed strategy for the latter event is sure to raise some eyebrows: that is, officials wondered aloud whether the country should focus on less popular sports for ‘extemely disabled’ athletes. For an in-depth report and the ethical questions the strategy raises, I strongly suggest you read Rick’s report. Here are some documents I obtained a little while ago (and didn’t get a chance to post) that covered some of the same ground.
